About This Series

The forces of nature have a way of shaping the world in ways that aren’t always immediately apparent. Wind, water, temperature, and radiation are constantly sculpting the Earth and will continue to do so long after we’re gone. The elements build as much as they take away. They’re both supportive and unforgiving. The works from my latest series are a reflection of this tension between the world that we perceive and the one that has yet to be created. Every change we make, big or small, leaves a trace from that moment, which in turn builds on another — like layers of paint. The marks, however profound, have an ephemeral effect since they are often dissolved, destroyed, or become obsolete with the arrival of the new. Because our perception of time is often limited to the span of seconds, subtle accumulations aren’t always apparent. Paradoxically, when one stops for a moment to view the world from a different vantage point, those subtleties become illuminated.
